WARNING AND ESCAPE Satisfying the requirement to provide appropriate means of escape from a loft conversion is sometimes a complex task.
Other cladding and rooﬁng materials that may be considered include lead, zinc, copper, timber and GRP. Equally, expanded metal lathing may be ﬁxed to the vertical studwork, and render applied. Dormer cheeks may be glazed, rather than clad, in order to improve daylighting. Where this is proposed, the questions of overlooking and the practical difﬁculties of cleaning the external face of the glazing panels, which are generally ﬁxed, must be addressed. Traditional dormer forms are generally described by roof rather than window shape.
