A surge diverter consists of a nonlinear resistor which acts as a shunt to any surge voltage. The diverter has the peculiar property of being almost nonconductive at normal mains voltage, but becomes increasingly more conductive with a rise in voltage. It may also be advisable to fit surge diverters to inductive contactor coils that are subject to rapid or frequent operations. 7 EARTH CONCENTRIC WIRING This comes under the heading of Protective Multiple Earthing (PME) and requires a Form of Approval from the Department of Trade and Industry.

The wedge part of the tool is now used to crimp the stub cap firmly to the pot shell. For an earth tail, the wedge should be rotated until the earth wire lines up with one of the cap stubs. If a gland is required, then the necessary end is threaded over the cable prior to fitting on the pot.
