Film Release FAQ

Now that the film has been completed and had its world premiere at the SXSW film festival this March, we are in the process of figuring out our distribution plan for the film. Typically, the roll-out of a feature-length documentary goes something like this: 1) Film is shown at film festivals around the country, 2) Film is shown at other theatrical venues, 3) Film is released on iTunes, Netflix, and other online platforms, and on DVD, 4) Film is released on television. We’re not bound by tradition and will likely do things a bit differently, but know that as we work with film festivals, theaters and distribution companies—each with their own schedules and needs for exclusivity—there is a certain timing that we need to meet with each step along the way. As we figure out all of the intricacies of distribution, we’ll be sure to keep everyone updated of releases here on the blog, on our facebook page, and via our email newsletter:

Here are a few answers to more specific questions that you might have…

I’ve already pre-ordered a DVD. When will I receive it?

It will take us a few more months to finish editing the Special Features for the DVD and to figure out our final plan for distributing the film on DVD. We should have a specific ETA on DVD shipments later this spring.

So thank all of our DVD pre-orders for their patience as our project has grown and changed over the past few months, we’ll be announcing a special online sneak peek of parts of the film. We’ll also sending a Special Edition signed poster to everyone.

I’m a Kickstarter backer. When will I get to see the online premier that was included in my reward?

We’ll be hosting a private, online premier of the film for all of our Kickstarter backers during the weekend of March 21-23. Keep you eyes on your email inbox for specific instructions on how to view the film during this time.

I’m a Kickstarter backer. When will I get the DVD that was included in my reward?

I am a Kickstarter backer/I have pre-ordered a DVD, but I’ve moved since I backed the project/placed my order. How can I be sure that my DVD is sent to the correct address?

No problem! Just shoot us an email to speakthunderfilms [at] gmail.com with your name and new address, and we’ll be sure to change it in our records. We’ll also be sending out an email to everyone before we ship DVDs, just to make sure that everyone’s address is current.
